As a 2 1/2 year survivor of anal cancer, I would like to congratulate the Almadas on their tireless efforts to get this cancer in the spotlight and increase awareness. Whether we like it or not, this cancer is on the rise. The incidence numbers are low, in my opinion, due to the fact that many have the disease and don’t know it. It’s the old “bleeding hemorrhoid” diagnosis that gets people in trouble. My internist gave me that diagnosis and two weeks later during my first colonoscopy, suddenly it went from that to anal cancer. Treatment (chemo/radiation) is brutal and has left me with side effects that will most likely be with me the rest of my life. But I am alive and am not ashamed or embarrassed to tell people about my cancer. Awareness saves lives. Oh, it wasn’t easy to talk about in the beginning, believe me. I told my colorectal surgeon that one day and she said “I don’t know why–everybody has one! (anus) Every responsible adult should be asking their doctors to perform digital rectal exams yearly. If something is detected, that person should NOT accept a diagnosis of bleeding hemorrhoids without getting examined further by a specialist by anoscopy. As with my (former) doctor, most can not be absolutely sure if it’s a hemi or a tumor.
This is an interesting method. I never thought of combining those above to make a great home remedy for hemorrhoids. I want to share several tips that I’ve found and tried from online that’s working quite great:- Taking a warm tub or sitz bath several time a day in plain, warm water for about 10 minutes.- Eat high-fiber foods. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.- Reduce eating foods such as pizza, cheese.
