Internal hemorrhoids are often present without causing any discomfort or even awareness of their presence.

All people have what are called hemorrhoid veins. They are classified as external and internal hemorrhoid veins. But it is only when they become inflamed do we notice them. It is estimated that 1 in 26 people have inflamed hemorrhoids or around 100 million Americans.

Since there is external and internal hemorrhoid veins, there are two types of hemorrhoids, internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids. If you have internal hemorrhoids, there is little or no pain. In fact the only way you know you have them, is from blood on the toilet paper or in the toilet. External hemorrhoids can cause severe pain and can bleed easily.

So how do they become inflamed? It is believed they become inflamed because of excessive straining on the toilet. Some other factors that are believed to help inflame hemorrhoids are, a lack of adequate fiber intake, or sitting on the toilet for excessive amount of time. There are a couple of factors that have been proven to cause hemorrhoids. These are tumors in the pelvis area and in women, pregnancy.

So how do you cure hemorrhoids? There are several over the counter remedies that have been proven to work to cure hemorrhoids. If these do not work, you can try some prescription remedies that have been proven to be effective.

Once you cure them, the next step is to prevent them from coming back. A good start is to improve your diet by getting more fiber. This will help in reducing straining on the toilet and reduce your time on the toilet.
