Internal hemorrhoids also may prolapse outside the anus, where they appear as small, grape-like masses.
What are hemorrhoids and why people get them?
Although most people do not know, hemorrhoids are actually present in everyone. They are a lump of tissue in the anal canal and are present in everyone. In about less than 5% of the population, the hemorrhoids become large and then become a source of pain and embarrassment when they hurt and bleed.
It has been very difficult for medical research to pin point the causes of hemorrhoids although the most common reasons are poor fiber intake, excessive passage of stool which overworks the anal canal and constipation.
There are also various types of hemorrhoids, classified by their severity. If you had been to the doctor, you would have probably seen him categorize your hemorrhoids as of stage 1, stage 2, stage 3 or stage 4. Stage 1 hemorrhoids are the least problematic and they are internal. A stage 4 is the worst, with painful bleeding as the hemorrhoids would have prolapsed or come outside the anal canal.
What can you do for relief?
- Over the counter medicines - There is a whole range of creams, gels and solutions that you can buy over the counter. Most of these solutions only reduce the irritation. They are usually made of the same ingredients of creams and gels that are used for preventing itching sensations.
- Nonoperative procedures applicable to internal hemorrhoids only - Various procedures such as injecting pain relieving liquid straight into the tissue and using heat to kill hemorrhoid tissue are commonly used. Cold treatment is also done in some cases although it is not very effective in most cases.
What if conventional treatments do not work?
For most people, conventional treatments only reduces the hemorrhoids and it can be a frustrating problem. There are several alternate cures available on the Internet that work surprisingly well for some people. From herbal mixes to special oils, these alternate solutions will cure hemorrhoids for some people.
Medical research has failed to completely eradicate the cause for the onset of hemorrhoids. Alternate medicines are very successful in some cases because everyone has a different constituency and sometimes all it takes is just the ingestion of one or two herbs that will alter their constituency and help them get rid of hemorrhoids altogether without recurrences. Most alternate solutions are usually trial and error methods that would have resulted out of home remedies that a person might have very successfully used for his or her own self.
