Hemorrhoids is a condition not all sufferers are willing to admit. Most are too embarrassed to tell their doctors about it. Hemorrhoids are tiny pouches that form inside (internal) or outside (external) the anus. These are painful lumps that are often aggravated by sitting or standing for long periods of time. To avoid this, you can walk more often – to another department in your office to get documents, for instance, instead of having someone get them for you. If you’re sitting in front of the computer the whole day, you can take a 10 minute break every now and then and stroll outside the office. By doing this, you’re doing your body a favor by getting some exercise and preventing the formation of hemorrhoids.
Eating the right kinds of food is also a great way to prevent hemorrhoids. If your ideal meal is a burger and fries, it’s likely you’ll get hemorrhoids eventually. Increased intake of salt can retain fluids inside your body, making it more likely for veins to bulge out in the anal area. Caffeine can also constrict your vessels and pool blood in the protruding vein. Spicy foods can irritate the bowels, making the vessels sensitive to pain.
Pregnant women and overweight people usually encounter hemorrhoids more often than most other people. Due to the increased weight placed on the lower extremities, vessels tend to collapse. When this happens, hemorrhoids form. If you’re overweight, exercising and eating a healthier diet will help solve the problem. For pregnant women, resting on your left side for twenty minutes every four to six hours alleviates the pressure in the main vein, draining blood towards the lower extremities.
So why wait to cure it when you can prevent it in the first place? Living healthily is the key to preventing hemorrhoids.
