SUPPLEMENTS

Magnesium: known to be a stool softener.

Bioflavonoids: help in stabilizing blood vessel walls and decreasing inflammation. Studies show that these can reduce anal discomfort, pain, and anal discharge in acute hemorrhoid attack.

Zinc Oxide: reduces pain and swelling. After bowel movement, dab a small amount of zinc oxide on a cotton or soft tissue and gently apply it in the affected area.

Always consult your doctor before using any supplements.

SELF-TREATMENTS

Applying an ice pack on the swollen area will shrink the inflamed hemorrhoids. Place the ice in a plastic bag and wrap it in a piece of cloth. Apply it for around 15 minutes at a time, taking 15-minute breaks between applications. Also, warm baths can sooth hemorrhoids.

In serious cases of hemorrhoids however, the need for surgical intervention is necessary. These procedures must be initiated and monitored by a doctor.

RLS is a sleep disorder proven to be real!!!! It is not caused by lack of exercise. It, however, is exacerbated by some physiological circumstances. Notably low iron stores. I have found great relief in keeping my storage iron levels (feritin) above 50. I had suffered for years with RLS but after an intravenous infusion of iron for the severe anemia I had, my RLS disappeared. I asked the hematologist if there could be any connection and he snickered at me. Hadn’t anyone ever told me there is a correlation? He felt bad for me that none of my previous doctors who knew I has both RLS and anemia did not know or failed to mention the connection.
