It is interesting that so many posters are jealous of athletes but not the owners. Posters here keep mentioning that the players make more money in a lifetime than than 95% of all Americans. What they fail to appreciate is that the NFL uses high schools and colleges as the farm system for it's labor pool. The NFL encourages this career path with a wide array of camps run by its players and coaches. The NFL is a career path for this large pool of athletes. It wouldn't surprise me if less than 1% of the athletes who begin this career path actually make an NFL roster. Along the way, injuries derail many a career. Every NFL players lives in fear of his career suddenly ending. Owners don't have to live with such a fear. When is the last NFL team that folded? That fear factor and anxiety – the average NFL career is less than 4 years – is the reason why NFL players fight so hard for salaries and benefits in a CBA negotiation.
